The impetus for my art is connection.  Each work is born from an experience, an emotion, a memory.  I aspire to translate the electrical impulses of feeling, vibrations that barely exists in the physical world, into a state of permanence. A reflection of the passages of living. Something that communicates with the observer.
There’s an excitement in communicating through clay.  There is nothing that need separate the artist from the medium – no pen, brush or tool is necessary. There is an immediacy and intimacy with clay, your fingers directly manipulate and influence the form and surface… But it isn’t silent.  The artist must also surrender to the clay at times and understand how to work to it’s nature and disposition.  The clay itself becomes a co-artist with you and together you make the piece.
Every work is a result of the unique conditions of that particular journey and can never be repeated.

Art is not an intellectual discipline. I view it as almost the opposite, a meditation. I strive to silence the chatter, to allow myself a cursive fluidity to communicate.

The testimony between the piece and the witness is as unique as the art itself.  Viewed, interpreted and understood by each person differently, within the context of their journey. My only hope for each work, is that it resonates.
