WORKSHOP FAQs

  • Can I purchase a pottery course gift card?

Absolutely. You can purchase a gift card for a ceramic taster course or a one-day pottery workshop place, that can be redeemed against a pottery class of the recipient’s choosing. Alternatively, you can buy a gift card amount of your chosen denomination, to go towards the price of a course. With enough time, I can make you a ceramic gift card you can wrap as a birthday / thank you / wedding / anniversary present or to put under the Christmas tree, with my embossed Seetha Hallett card and envelope, on which you can write your personalised message. Please enquire here.

  • How big are your class sizes?

Depending on the complexity of the techniques involved, I limit each workshop to a maximum of either 5 or 8 students. This ensures enough time for individual guidance, so that everyone gets the most out of each course, whilst enjoying a relaxing experience. I do however require a minimum of 4 people to run my one day and taster courses and 6 to run my decoration workshops.

  • Can I become proficient in ceramic handbuilding from your courses?

Undoubtedly. I have designed my seven courses to cover the fundamental techniques of handbuilding in different ways and to varying levels of complexity.

  • I keep missing out on a place on your courses - what can I do?

Most of my time is spent creating collections and working on commissions, which sadly leaves me little time for teaching, hence only running my workshops 3-4 times a year I’m afraid. I do release upcoming course dates in advance to people that request notification. If you would like to join the workshops mailing list, please subscribe here.

  • Can I book out an entire course to come with friends/colleagues/family?

Absolutely, though numbers are limited on workshops to ensure everyone gets the most out of the course and spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Alternatively, if you want to arrange a private group workshop with friends / family / colleagues, please complete the ‘Private Group Workshop’ enquiry form here.

  • Am I limited to the same small class sizes, as your pottery course numbers, if I am booking a private group event?

No, I can work with you to accomodate the number of people you want to have but please be aware that the more people there are, the less individual time I’ll be able to give everyone. In the summertime, I can run private group workshops outside in the grounds of the studio, by the river, subject to weather, .

  • I think a ceramic class could be a great idea for a corporate event. Do you offer a pottery workshop for that?

Yes, I have pottery classes that could lend themselves well to that type of event. To make an enquiry, please click here.

  • I want to enjoy a shared experience with my partner / friend / child / parent, do you offer handbuilding pottery classes for just two people?

Yes. Private lessons can be booked for two (or more). Please find further details here. Please note that all my workshops are suitable for students of 13 years and up.

  • What do I need to bring?

Nothing but yourself - all materials and tools are provided for your use. Wearing old clothes is advised - it can get messy! Also, best to avoid jewellery on hands, have long hair tied up and wear comfortable shoes. Short nails are recommended but not essential.

  • Is there parking available?

Yes, there’s space for 8 cars at the studio but carpooling is recommended if you’ll be attending with friends / colleagues / family.

  • Can I bring refreshments with me?

Yes, that’s completely fine but it’s best to keep them away from the work areas, in case of spillages and I’d respectfully ask that any rubbish is cleared away in the bins on site. Lunch is catered for all full day courses.

  • If I am organising a private group workshop to mark a special event, can we enjoy food and/or drinks during the workshop?

Yes, we can liaise to ensure you have what you need to make the event fun.

  • When will the pieces I make be ready for collection?

Your pieces will be available within 3-5 weeks after your class, unless a different time frame is indicated within the course outline, such as pre christmas collections. You will be notified via email when they are ready and you can swing by the studio to collect them: M-F 9-6 / ST 10-2. All pieces should be collected within a month of notification - due to limited space, I wouldn’t be able to hold on to them for you beyond that time unfortunately.

  • My work schedule / commitments clash with your pottery class days / times. Is there anything that can be done?

If you let me know what workshop(s) you are interested in and what days and times would work for you, if there is enough interest (I require a minimum of 4 students to run my classes), I will try to arrange my next workshop dates to accommodate your request. Please complete the form here. Alternatively, private lessons and group events can be arranged for two or more students. For further information regarding these, please click here.

  • Can I fire pieces I've made at home in your kiln?

I offer a firing service to students who have taken two or more classes with me, within a year of your firing request, so I know you are competent in best glazing and firing practices. This service is available as and when I have space in my kiln. My prices are based per half kiln shelf and vary depending on the maximum height of the pieces you wish to fire. To enquire about availability and current pricing, please click here.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

All workshop bookings are non-refundable, but I’m very happy to rebook you onto a new date if you can no longer make it. If you need to change your booking, I just ask for more than one week’s notice to do so. I will release my next workshop dates to you in advance of them going live, so we can ensure your place is secured on the replacement course of your choice. If we rescheduled you for another session and you cannot make the course for a second time, your course fee is forfeited I’m afraid. I can only move you one time, as each time I do so, I reserve the space for you alone. When you change at the last minute, someone else who could be taking the class is unable to register, since my workshop numbers are limited to ensure everyone has a rewarding experience. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Can I gift my workshop place to someone else if I'm no longer able to change the date for myself?

Of course - it would be a shame for the place to go to waste and perhaps they could then gift you the course for another date. I just ask that you email me the person’s name who will be taking your place at info@seethahallett.com, in advance of the start time of the workshop, so I know to expect them.

  • Why can I only reach you by email not phone?

Most of my day is spent covered in clay (working on collections, commissions or teaching) or loading kilns, so the fastest way to reach me is via email, which I set time aside for each day. I endeavour to reply within 48 hrs.

Workshops are only run 3-4 times a year and class sizes are kept small. For early access to upcoming class dates, please join the mailing list below.
