What's included:
- ACROSS THIS FULL DAY POTTERY COURSE, YOU will learn one of the core METHODS OF handbuilding: the slab building technique. WE WILL ALSO COVER THE ART OF MAKING AND ATTACHING A SPOUT.
- A 4 piece MORNING BREW set of your creation - 2X MUGS, a MILK JUG AND A SUGAR BOWL.
- tuition, EXHIBITION STANDARD materials, TOOLS FOR USE ON THE DAY and firing costs.
- LUNCH and refreshments will be PROVIDED. sample menu: 17 plant superfood roasted sweet potato and freekEh salad with a cranberry and almond dressing, spinach, pomegranate and lightly spiced seeds, served with fougasse, olive oil and balsamic.
- The studio is located 5 minutes from central Farnham, Surrey.
What TO EXPECT:
You will learn the fundamentals of slab building and SPEND THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY MAKING YOUR two mugs. If you wish, I can teach you how to fashion and attach handles to them as well. I will also talk to you individually about your thoughts re the surface design for YOUR COFFEE/TEA SET. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THIS, YOU WILL DESIGN YOUR SPOUT FOR YOUR MILK JUG.
AFTER LUNCH, WE WILL BUILD ON THE SKILLS YOU LEARNT IN THE MORNING TO MAKE YOUR SUGAR BOWL AND ADVANCE THEM TO CREATE YOUR JUG. Depending on the rate of progress, I can also show you how to make a lid for your sugar bowl. ONCE YOU’VE CREATED YOUR SET, IT’S TIME TO LET YOUR CREATIVITY RUN FREE TO MAKE IT UNIQUELY YOURS AND COMPLIMENT YOUR LIVING SPACE, WITH ETCHING, CARVING, PAINTING OR ANY OTHER IDEAS YOU HAVE THAT ARE AchievABLE ON THE DAY. Should you choose to paint your VESSELS with underglazes, I HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE ARRAY OF COLOURS FOR YOU TO WORK WITH. DEPENDING ON THE EXTENT OF YOUR COLOUR WORK, THIS MAY CARRY A MINIMAL SURCHARGE.
AT THE END OF THE WORKSHOP, YOU WILL LEAVE YOUR MUGS, JUG AND SUGAR BOWL WITH ME TO PROCESS - I WILL DRY THEM, BISQUE FIRE, SAND, WAX, GLAZE AND GLAZE FIRE THEM. ALONGSIDE any SURFACE DECORATION DESIGNS YOU HAVE CREATED, You will be able to choose between a matt white, ivory gloss and/or a transparent glaze, IN WHICH I WILL finish your FOUR PIECES.
i will notify you via email when your set is ready for collection.
