What TO EXPECT:
the first half of our day will be spent preparing the clay and creating your two starter plates and two dessert bowls. I will also talk to you individually about your thoughts re the surface design for YOUR SET, so you can begin your surface decoration once you have built your pieces. if you would like to carve, etch or paint your set, feel free to sketch your designs prior to the workshop or let your creativity flow on the day. perhaps consider your living space, SO the aesthetic of your set COMPLIMENTS your interior style.
AFTER LUNCH, you will build on your knowledge to create the more challenging two main course plates, followed by your design work. Should you choose to paint your set with underglazes, I HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE ARRAY OF COLOURS FOR YOU TO WORK WITH. DEPENDING ON THE EXTENT OF YOUR COLOUR WORK, THIS MAY CARRY A MINIMAL SURCHARGE.
AT THE END OF THE WORKSHOP, YOU WILL LEAVE YOUR set WITH ME TO PROCESS - I WILL DRY YOUR pIECES, BISQUE FIRE, SAND, WAX, GLAZE AND GLAZE FIRE THEM. IN CONJUNCTION WITH any SURFACE DECORATION DESIGNS YOU HAVE, You will be able to choose between a matt white, ivory gloss and/or a transparent glaze, IN WHICH I WILL finish your six PIECE Set.
I WILL NOTIFY YOU VIA EMAIL WHEN YOUR tableware collection IS READY to be COLLECTed.
I wanted to design a tableware set that lends itself to all dining occasions, from formal three course menus to more casual grazing. the starter plate works equally well as a breakfast, side, salad, cake or dessert plate. The main plate is ideally sized as a formal dinner plate and for more substantial lunch servings. The dessert bowl is versatile enough to use for breakfasts of granola, porridge or açai bowls and can also double as the perfect vessel for soup or ramen. Likewise, the set is perfect for meze style dining, as serveware for multiple dishes. Whatever the meal, there’s something enriching about honouring the breaking of bread with loved ones with a UNIQUE, handCRAFTED set.
Workshops are only run 3-4 times a year and class sizes are kept small. For early access to upcoming class dates, please join the mailing list below.
