- DURING THIS TASTER POTTERY COURSE, YOU will learn one of the core techniques OF handbuilding: slab building. WE WILL ALSO COVER THE ART OF MAKING AND ATTACHING HANDLES.
- A MUG of your creation
- tuition, EXHIBITION STANDARD materials, TOOLS FOR USE ON THE DAY and firing costs
- The studio is located 5 minutes from central Farnham, Surrey.
What TO EXPECT:
If your time is limited, THIS TASTER WORKSHOP will give you a great introduction to handbuilding, allowing enough time for you to gain a good understanding of the material and to make something you’re proud of. I RECOMMEND SKETCHING YOUR MUG BEFORE YOU COME TO THE WORKSHOP, SO YOU CAN DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT YOU WANT TO ATTACH A HANDLE AND IF YOU DO, WHAT THAT HANDLE WILL LOOK LIKE. THINK ABOUT HOW YOU LIKE TO HOLD YOUR MUG AND THEREFORE ABOUT SIZE, CURVE AND SHAPE, AS WELL AS A DESIGN THAT WILL FIT YOUR AESTHETIC. WITH THE SLAB BUILDING TECHNIQUE, THE BODY OF YOUR MUG WILL BE CYLINDRICAL.
ALSO HAVE A THINK AS TO WHETHER YOU WISH TO ETCH OR CARVE YOUR MUG, AS THIS WILL IMPACT HOW YOU BUILD IT. Should you choose to DECORATE IT with underglazes, I HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE ARRAY OF COLOURS FOR YOU TO WORK WITH.
AT THE END OF THE WORKSHOP, YOU WILL LEAVE YOUR MUG WITH ME TO PROCESS - I WILL DRY IT, BISQUE FIRE, SAND, WAX, GLAZE AND GLAZE FIRE IT. IN CONJUNCTION WITH any SURFACE DECORATION DESIGNS YOU HAVE, You will be able to choose between a matt white, ivory gloss and/or a transparent glaze, IN WHICH I WILL finish your PIECE.
I WILL NOTIFY YOU VIA EMAIL WHEN YOUR mug IS READY FOR COLLECTION.
